Bali is an Indonesian island located in the westernmost end of the Lesser Sunda Islands, lying between Java to the west and Lombok to the east. It is one of the country’s 33 provinces with the provincial capital at Denpasar towards the south of the island. The province covers a few small neighbouring islands as well as the isle of Bali.

GOING AND LEAVING BALI

Go to Bali: Gili Sea Express offers transfers from Lombok (Bangsal or Senggigi harbors), the Gilis, Nusa Penida and Nusa Lembongan to Bali

  • The fast boat lines coming from Lombok, departure from Bangsal, arrives in Amed, Padang Bai or Sanur while the line from Senggigi harbor exclusively arrives in Padang Bai. The only direct line with a departure from Lombok is Senggigi – Padang Bai. The lines going from Bangsal to Amed and from Bangsal to Padang Bai will stop in the Gilis before arriving respectively to Amed and Padang Bai. The line going from Bangsal to Sanur will stops in Gilis and Nusa Lembongan before reaching Sanur.
  • If you are coming from the Gilis, you will have to choose between Amed, Padang Bai and Sanur. But the line going from Gilis to Sanur will stop in Nusa Lembongan.
  • If you leave from Nusa Lembongan, Sea Express offers you the possibility to arrive either in Padang Bai or Sanur. The boat leaves Nusa Lembongan in the harbor of Jungut Batu, located on the main beach (west of the island).
  • If you leave from or Nusa Penida, you will arrive in Sanur.

With a population recorded as 3,891,428 in the 2010 census, the island is home to most of Indonesia’s Hindu minority. In the 2000 census about 92.29% of Bali’s population adhered to Balinese Hinduism while most of the remainder follow Islam. It is also the largest tourist destination in the country and is renowned for its highly developed arts, including traditional and modern dance, sculpture, painting, leather, metalworking, and music. Bali, a tourist haven for decades, has seen a further surge in tourist numbers in recent years.

THINGS TO DO IN BALI

Bali is surely the most renown island of Indonesia. It is famous for the diversity of its activities, in Bali you can find everything you wish. You have many different atmosphere and places that the island offers. You can enjoy the beautiful beaches, going from white to dark sands. You can surf in many different conditions, from beginners to advanced levels. You can find all the water sports you can think of in Sanur and around the island. There are some famous spots for diving in Amed and Tulamben, where you can dive on shipwrecks. The national park of Menjangan offers an incredible marine diversity (in Pemuteran, north of the island) and at less than an hour by boat, you can go swim with Manta Rays in Nusa Lembongan… Moreover, Bali is called the island of gods, because of the Hinduism religion of its population, there are many temples and sacred places to visit, in the middle of the jungle or behind a hidden cliff… It gives to the atmosphere of the island a mystic aspect that you will surely appreciate. If you are looking for hiking and high landscapes, you can hike the Mount Batur and Mount Agung which are two volcanos surrounded by interesting beliefs. On the other hand, you can take rest and get the most from your mind and body in places like Ubud where you can meditate in some professional yoga centres. Bali is full of diversity for every kind of activity and taste.
